Acupuncture FAQ

What can I expect at my first treatment?

Bridgit will discuss the conditions that you would like to have treated, evaluate your present condition, and set benchmarks so your progress can be monitored.

As you relax on the comfortable padded treatment table, peaceful music will provide a relaxing background as Bridgit uses her gentle touch to rebalance the energy within your body.  A typical acupuncture session lasts for about an hour to an hour and a half.  Many people experience some benefit immediately after the session, and are often relaxed, yet energetic as well.

For children or patients extremely sensitive to needles, we can start the first treatment with magnets.

What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is an ancient healing art developed in Asia, and has been practiced there for more than 2000 years.  Asian medicine teaches that there is an energy system within the body, and in good health, it flows smoothly.

When this inner energy, or Qi, becomes blocked due to injury or stress, we feel pain.  Qi may also become diminished due to illness or hard work.

Acupuncture harmonizes the inner energy of the body, which then promotes natural healing, and increases your energy level and sense of well-being.

How does Acupuncture work?

Acupuncture involves the insertion of very fine, hair-like needles, at specific acupuncture points in the body. These points are gateways into the body’s energy system, which flows along invisible meridians or pathways. The trained Acupuncturist has the ability to remove blockages of energy, and is able to stimulate the body’s ability to regenerate that energy.  This rebalancing of the body's energy promotes healing.

Asian medicine looks at all aspects of your health: physical, mental and emotional, to determine a pattern to be treated, which is uniquely suited to you.  For example, the treatment for a headache or insomnia may be very different for you than it is to someone else suffering from the same issues.

Does Acupuncture hurt?

Because acupuncture needles are so thin, you will feel only a tingling sensation, a slight ache for a few seconds, or nothing at all.

Patients usually feel very relaxed during their treatment.  Non-insertive techniques such as the use of magnets or cupping are also available.  "Touching needles" are especially appropriate for young children.

Is Acupuncture safe?

Acupuncture is a safe, drug-free therapy with no side effects.

We use pre-sterilized, pre-packaged, one-time-use needles, and dispose of them safely after use. We practice universal safety precautions and adhere to OSHA safety standards.

How many treatments will I need?

The amount of treatments you will need depends on the nature of the complaint, your overall health, and your response to treatment.

For acute conditions, 3 or 4 treatments may be sufficient. Chronic or severe conditions may require 6 - 12 treatments.
